Shakespeare Shorts 2019

The Shakespeare Shorts event takes place once every three years at the University of California, Irvine. One weekend in late spring you can see two Shakespeare shows that have been reduced to one hour each and given a small producing budget. Both shows are cut and directed by that year's graduate directing students and have the support of lighting, sound, and scenic designers. Below are images from when I lit the Shakespeare Shorts in 2019. We chose to do our shorts at an outdoor location near the Arts Campus at UCI. This location brought many challenges to include limited power for the handful of lights I had available at the time. I also was working with multiple levels and no lighting positions. Under these restrictions, my primary goal was to make sure that everyone was illuminated, I was then able to add the time of day and mood by splashing color from my LEDs.
